Dear Area 11-L Coaches, Players and Parents: As we enter the Fall 2009 season, it is important to reiterate the standards of expectations for conduct on part of all associated with participation in and attendance at games. “Safe, fair, and fun” play is not a by product of fighting, abusive language, rude gestures or intentional fouling. Poor sportsmanship and violent behavior are unacceptable and the increasingly ugly incidents leading to red and yellow card violations have become a serious safety issue. The administrators of the Area Interplay programs are committed to do their part to deliver a quality program with high standards of conduct, but this goal can only be achieved if the players and their parents understand and support the conduct standards and consequences for ignoring them. Therefore, this season, the following code of conduct will be enforced: Players: 1. No fighting. This is a true ZERO TOLERANCE issue which will carry sanctions in, to include termination of the individual’s season.. 2. Respect the calls made by the officials. No form of abuse is permitted. Player/coach conduct will be monitored to ensure compliance. Physical abuse will be treated as per “fighting” – above. 3. Respect your opponent. Over the course of the season, if a player receives three (3) yellow cards for abusing either his opponents or officials, a disciplinary hearing will be held to determine if his/her playing season (and perhaps his/her future involvement in AYSO) will be terminated. That player will be ineligible for play until the results of the hearing have been determined. Parents / Spectators: 1. Support, or at a minimum be silent regarding the calls of the referee. Parents can “fuel the fires” from the sidelines and spectator behavior encouraging poor sportsmanship will result in removal of the offending party from the field. Based on the match report, a decision will be made as to the possibility of additional sanctions against the offending spectator. 2. Do not challenge any official, opposing team’s coach, players, or parents. If any parent or spectator does make such a “challenge” anytime or anywhere during the game or afterwards (example: in a parking lot), then they will not be allowed to attend future games. If they persist in being present, their team’s match will be suspended until such time as they leave the field or their team may possibly be forced to forfeit the match. It is the responsibility of the coaches to ensure proper conduct on part of themselves, their players and spectators. If not, the coach(es) also may face disciplinary action. These actions are for everyone’s benefit. Soccer is a game and we should respect it and enjoy it. If anyone has questions regarding these “standards”, please feel free to contact me. Thank you in advance for your support and compliance to these matters. Jim Rosenberg Area Director |
Coaches: If you have any questions regarding the program, please refer to the Area Rules and Regulations. If you cannot find the answer to your question there, contact your Regional Upper Division Coordinator. They are your primary source for information and problem resolution. Questions about lower division play, or regional U14 play should be directed to your home region.
FORMAT OF PLAY U16/U19 The season will be split into 2 Rounds of Pool Play. The first, "Seeding Round" will be used to establish placement in the second round of play which is for final standings. Total team counts by age/gender group determine the size of flights for both seeding and final standings rounds. All games played will use the 10 point scoring system as defined by Area L rules. All games can end in a tie with the standard tie breakers as defined in the Area 11-L Rules & Regs if there is a tie in the standings. In the event of an uneven number of games played due to rain outs or other circumstances, the standings will be based on average points per game.
FORMAT OF PLAY U14 The Area 11-L U14 Interplay league was developed as a gaming circuit for those regions that do not have enough U14 teams to establish an adequate number of games for a standard season. All U14 games in the Area 11-L Interplay program are considered "friendlies" or practice games. As such, there is no score reporting for these games and no standings kept. After the Interplay season has concluded, teams will play in their own regions' playoffs to determine regional championships and establish eligibility for participation in Area Playoffs.
Miscellaneous notes: All games must be played at the time and venue as designated on the game schedule. Sanctions to include forfeiture of the game, will be imposed on teams making other arrangements. Rainouts will not be re-scheduled by Area 11/L. It is up to the teams that are rained-out to make alternate arrangement to include field space, referees, and authorization from their respective Regional Commissioners. Only rained out games may be re-scheduled. ID cards for competition in Area 11/L are required for coaches ONLY, not for players. Teams are allowed a maximum of two (2) coaches. Tournament rules, especially outside of Area 11/L may vary and require player ID cards. All send-offs, (player, coach, and/or spectator), will result in a three (3) point deduction from the team's points total for each send-off. Final standings in pool play will be based on average points per game.
