ALOHA!

The Region 85 GU19 National Team has returned from Hawaii, where they competed in the AYSO National Games.   Activities began on Tuesday, July 8 with the Opening Ceremonies which were highlighted by the State Procession of Teams, Polynesian dancers, and fireworks.  The players received an especially warm welcome from everyone in attendance.  Wednesday the entire team participated in the National Games Soccerfest.  The Soccerfest is an event where players from all over the country are randomly placed on teams with other players.  It was very rewarding to see players who were tentative, embrace the concept once the games began.

Thursday saw the beginning of the real competition between the 24 teams in the GU19 Division.  Our Lake Forest Region 85 team did well, advancing to the Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon and into the Championship round on Sunday.  The local Hawaiian teams were particularly talented and placed First and Second.  Lake Forest fell to Brisbane, CA and placed fourth overall.  We were proud to represent our AYSO family in the games and a special thank you to our Area Director and Region 85 families for all their support.
